Blood / Platelet Donations
Hi everyone:
During Lindsey's treatment, she will need blood and platelet transfusions. There is no way to predict how many, but she may need them daily during the first few weeks after her transplant. Part of the orientation that we had today consisted of a presentation from Tammy Wright of Atlanta Blood Services. This organization is located across the hall from the Northside Hospital Blood and Bone Marrow Group office, and it is the exclusive provider of the blood that Stem Cell and Bone Marrow transplant patients like Lindsey receive. They do not get blood from the Red Cross, because of the specific nature of the type of donations that they require. Platelet donation is a safe and easy process similar to giving blood. You sit in a reclining chair and watch a movie. It takes two hours of your time and it could mean saving Lindsey's life! Your donation will be of great help to patients like Lindsey in their successful recovery. This is a way to directly help Lindsey and others like her. Although there is no guarantee, your platelets may actually be given to Lindsey. If you are interested in determining if you are a candidate for blood and/or platelet donations, you are encouraged to contact ATLANTA BLOOD SERVICES AT 404/459-8744. YOU CAN REACH TAMMY WRIGHT AT EXTENSION 1120, AND BE SURE TO TELL HER THAN LINDSEY WEGRZYN ASKED YOU TO CALL !
