Plan B

Stem Cell mobilization hasn't gone as well as we had hoped. In today's stem cell retrieval, they were only able to collect 4% of what they needed, down from the 12% they collected on Friday. That's not heading in the right direction, obviously. At that rate, it could take weeks to get enough cells for transplant. Therefore, we are moving on to another process. There is a drug that was developed for AIDS treatment that was discovered to mobilize stem cells also. Because of that 'interesting' side effect, it is now being used for Stem Cell Transplants; but it has not been implemented into mainstream treatment yet. However, they do use it for patients who don't 'mobilize properly'. Dr. Morris told Lindsey that there have been 18 patients in his practice over the last year or so who were moved to "Plan B" and all of them had successful stem cell retrievals....................remember what I said about "Lindsey" and "normal" not being able to be used in the same sentence ? This is another example of that, so we are moving to "Plan B". It will take a few days to get everything together (paperwork, pre-testing, etc.), so they will not begin until next week.
