The pathology results came in from Lindsey's surgery. The biopsies taken from inside her lung all came out negative, but they will continue to watch them to see if any bacteria develops. At first look, the doctors think that the antibiotics she is taking are eliminating pneumonia, but it is just taking time. That's very good news. However, there is still malignant activity in the anterior mediastinal mass in the center of her chest. That means either the chemotherapy given during stem cell transplant didn't completely eliminate it, or that it is growing again. This was the site of her original disease, and it may just be that it is going to be the hardest part to completely eliminate. All of the doctors are conferring, and of course, our neighbor and dear friend, Dr. Robbie Medbery is making sure that the best doctors in the world get involved. Lindsey's friend, Sandra, who preceeded her in all of the same treatments by about a month, had the same thing show up on her 100 day scan. She underwent radiation and is now in remission. It will, hopefully, be just that a little 'clean up' work has to be done in order to strangle this monster for good. One possibility for treatment is Cyberknife Radiation. Robbie's brother is the pre-eminent Cyberknife Radiation doctor in the U.S. He pretty much 'wrote the book' on it, and he is being sent her scans and records. If he feel like he can 'zap' this thing, we will travel to Oklahoma City and stay for a week or two while he treats her. There will be minimal discomfort to Lindsey for this type of treatment. Robbie and all of the other doctors will be working on this over the next week or so. Right now, we're working on getting Lindsey out of the hospital. Jacob is staying with her there right now, and we hope they will let her out tomorrow. They've disconnected her from all of the telemetry she was hooked up to all week, and they've removed her chest tube; she's starting to be up and around more. She did have major surgery, though, so her full recovery will take a little bit more time. We've known for some time that Robbie was a Godsend, but now there is no question in our minds why she moved in next door to us. Lindsey and Jacob need your prayers right now, but please also say a prayer that God will guide Robbie in helping us make the right choices for Lindsey's care.
