First Treatment

Lindsey had her first treatment today. It went very well, pretty seamless. It lasts about an hour or so. She just lays still and the robotic arm moves around her and targets the radiation to pre-determined positions in the center of her chest. We will find out tomorrow how many days of treatment she will have. We originally thought Lindsey would have 3 or 4 sessions, but yesterday they told us it had to be broken down into 6 sessions. They are checking into whether they might be able to do two a day starting tomorrow. They are checking to make sure there is no overlap in the targeted radiation fields in order to do that. There is a maximum amount of radiation that your tissues can be exposed to in a day, and they have to be careful to protect her heart, lungs and spinal cord. So, we will either be done here on Friday, or next Tuesday. We're fortunate that we are staying in a two bedroom apartment, and not a hotel room. A hotel room would've gotten old very quickly. Here we have a full kitchen, living room and two bedrooms with private baths. It's in a very pleasant setting, overlooking a golf course. It's working out very well, but we still want to come home as soon as possible!
