The Great, the Good, and the Ugly

There really is no bad, because Lindsey is making amazing progress. She is part of a transplant study, and one of the doctors in the BMT group is in charge of the study. Evidently, the study is showing that there is 100% engraftment on day 30, with patients treated with thymoglobulin prior to transplant. Dr. Bashey is the BMT doctor who is in charge of the study, and he stops by to see Lindsey a lot. She is an integral part of the study, and is doing so well, that he is always beaming when he stops to talk to her.............Lindsey is progressing so well, that she may have passed the point of having to be hospitalized. That is HUGE. Your prayers are working ... her blood counts are rising, and she has had no fevers and had very small mouth sore issues, certainly not enough to put her in the hospital. Those mild issues are already clearing up and they are talking about letting her have her anti-rejection drugs administered in pill form a few days early. She has been wearing a 24/7 immuno-suppressive infusion pack, and would love to get rid of that thing and switch over to the pill version! That is the great news! The good news is that she has not really exibited any GVHD symptoms yet. She will have something, but we are really coasting so far, when it comes to that. The ugly, is that Lindsey and Jacob were at the clinic almost 11 hours today. Everything was going well; at the end of the day, they flush her catheter tubes. During the flushing, she started coughing and couldn't stop. They called in the nurses, mid-levels, and finally a doctor, to figure out why she was coughing uncontrollably. . . finally they decided she needed an X-Ray of her chest and catheter insertion point. Just to make sure everything was okay. Everything is okay, but it kept them there another 2-3 hours to be sure. Don't get me wrong, being sure is a wonderful thing. But, they pulled into our driveway 12-1/2 hours after leaving this morning... that's ugly.
