Much Better

We've got Lindsey's nausea under control. She takes a pill every 4 hours and they put a patch behind her ear. It's the kind they use for motion sickness, but it works, so who cares! Lindsey is able to eat mild tasting foods without a problem. We will try to advance to stronger tastes and smells tomorrow. That's the good news. The next chapter of issues is beginning. Lindsey will begin to develop "Mucousitis" over the next few days. Basically, it is a condition that affects your entire gastrointestinal system from your mouth all the way down. Since her immune system is compromised, she has no white blood cells to kill bacteria in her body, so it will grow and cause problems. She will be susceptible to all kinds of infections, bacteria, viruses, etc., and the doctors have told us this will last for anywhere from 1 week to 3 weeks. We make daily trips to the clinic and they give her support in the form of intravenous fluids, blood products and whatever she needs to stay strong through this difficult time. Additionally, she takes oral medications to help her body withstand this time of low blood counts. Once her stem cells "engraft" her counts will rise and her immune system will begin to work again. We take it day by day......................keep praying !
