No Platelets
Lindsey and Jacob drove to north Atlanta this morning, expecting that Lindsey would receive a platelet infusion, but her numbers were rising, so she did not get the infusion. Had they gone down, she would've gotten the platelets. It is better to have your body naturally recover than to give you a platelet infusion that will temporarily raise your numbers. By not giving her the infusion, they will get accurate or "true" blood work results on Wednesday when they have to make the decision to give her the chemotherapy treatment. If her numbers haven't risen adequately, they will just wait until they have the numbers they need. Lindsey feels fine, but the bloodwork shows she is anemic, so they gave her a shot of Procrit to help with that. Remember, however, that Lindsey's body is still recovering from the first transplant, and she is still rebuilding her bone marrow and immune system, a process that takes a full year ~ her transplant anniversary date isn't until March 2. Chemotherapy makes your numbers drop, and they want hers to be as high as possible before they give her any treatment. Jacob, Lindsey and Cooper will come back to Atlanta on Wednesday, and they will decide whether or not to give her the treatment. If we have to wait a few days, it will give them a chance to come down to Mercer with us on Wednesday evening for Shelley's "senior night". It is the last home game for her team, and they are playing an important game that night which will determine the regular season conference champion. Mercer is tied for first place in the conference, and have won 9 games in a row ! Go Bears ~
