ENGRAFTMENT !

On Day 15, they drew blood and sent it off to be tested to see how the transplant is going. The doctors were very pleased to announce today that the results showed that Shelley's stem cells are 100% "engrafted" ~ all of the blood being produced in Lindsey's bone marrow is from Shelley's donor cells. Lindsey is no longer producing blood from her old immune system. This is an amazingly FAST engraftment, and the doctors were very excited ! Normally, you could expect engraftment to take twice as long ~ Good Job, Shelley ! (I could make a joke here about Shelley being fast both ON and OFF the soccer field, but I'll resist the temptation!) On the pneumonia front, things are also looking up, as they have resolved the water retention issue, and are able to infuse some of the fluids that she needs through a pump that she takes home, making her days at the clinic a little shorter. The only annoying thing is that she had to get connected to the "take-home" pump. However, it's not 24/7, she will wear it until 8 o'clock tonight, when Jacob will disconnect it. At least she won't have to deal with it while she sleeps at night. She still has shortness of breath, but is in good spirits overall, and doing well.
