Stem Cell Transplant Day - 0
Now we count and pray. The Stem Cell Transplant went as planned. It is a simple procedure, really. They just show up with enormous syringes full of Lindsey's stem cells. Before they begin they make sure she is prepared to receive them, by checking her vitals. Then they monitor her during the procedure; she was attached to more monitors than I've ever seen before, and there were 3 technicians in the room to supervise the procedure. They check each syringe before they insert it to make sure it's Lindsey's cells inside, and they check and re-check every step of the way. The insertion of about a dozen syringes takes about an hour. They keep her attached to the monitors for about an hour afterward. That's it. Once they were sure she was okay, they let us go home.
We will go to the BMTG Clinic (Bone Marrow Transplant Group) every day for 6-8 hours, and when her temperature goes over 100.5, she goes in the hospital. Very few people avoid the additional hospital stay, and it usually occurs within 5-7 days of transplant.
